Amid concerns over a sluggish monsoon and declining water levels in reservoirs, Minister for the Department of Drinking Water (DDW) Subhash Phal Desai urged the public to use drinking water judiciously and avoid wastage.
Phal Desai said there was no immediate cause for concern as the Selaulim and Amthane dams currently hold around 20 per cent storage, which is expected to be sufficient to meet drinking water requirements for at least another month. He, however, stressed the need for responsible consumption in view of the uncertain rainfall situation.
The minister cautioned against the misuse of treated drinking water for non-essential purposes such as washing vehicles, watering gardens and plants, and other activities that can be avoided during the present circumstances.
